Why is the world using more and more water? Well, the use of water is growing fastest in agriculture and industry. To give an idea of the use of water in those two domains, here are some facts. 4500 tonnes of water are needed to produce one tonne of rice. 10000 tonnes of water are needed for one tonne for industrial cotton. It takes a litre and a half of water to produce one kilowatt-hour of electricity from oil or coal.
How much time have we got?
Well, if nothing is done, some population centres will be seriously suffer from lack of water by the year 2015, and there will be serious problems in much of Europe and Asia by 2030. But fortunately, many countries are beginning to act. The World Water Conference has decided on three principal areas in which all countries should cooperate which each other.
What should YOU do?
What advice would YOU give to the countries of the world? The following suggestions are from the World Water Conference:
A- Save the water in rivers, snow and lakes. Stop pollution. Don’t let too much fresh water run into the sea.
B- Doesn’t waste water distribute and use it efficiently.
C- Find new water sources get water from underground, from clouds, from the ice at the north and south poles.
